Crystal Palace Rumour Review: Latest on Eze, Transfers, Europe

Last updated at 20:00

There's too much noise out there to stay up to date on Crystal Palace - so we've put it all in one place, compiled with our editor's honest thoughts on each story.

"Arsenal have made contact with Eberechi Eze's camp"

Indeed they have, although it means very little at this stage. Eze has a £68m release clause, and unless that is activated, there are no conversations to be had between Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Eze would require some convincing to return to the club that let him go as a young teenager.

It's always a possibility, but it's not something to worry about until the release clause is met. However, the nature of such clauses means things can move fast once a player indicates interest.

"Crystal Palace are eyeing £15m star Hayden Hackney"

Hackney's name has gone around the Palace rumour mill for a couple of years now. I don't think this would be very likely, but it's true he's been historically admired.

"Palace monitoring Rav van den Berg"

Palace scouted van den Berg over the course of last season, and watched him at the U21 Euros this month. He is being considered as an option to bolster Palace's depth in defence ahead of the European campaign.

This rumour has more substance than the Hackney one, for now - but Palace are looking at a wide range of CBs.

"Palace offer contract to Oumar Diakite"

Source: Sport Witness

Diakité is an old link from a few windows back, but to give context as to how outdated Palace's interest in him is, he was being considered as a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta as the backup striker to Odsonne Edouard.

This isn't true.

"Crystal Palace remain in limbo with the latest update from UEFA"

It's very likely that this has come from someone high up at Palace. I'll let you guess who!

I cannot emphasise how frustrating this whole ordeal has been for our pre-season operations. The delays affect everything from recruitment to friendly scheduling, and have instilled a general feeling of dread among Palace fans - it's not quite enough to overshadow the FA Cup win, but it's certainly dampened spirits.

Palace now have to wait until Lyon's appeal has been responded to, which should come in the next 10 days. This is not indicative of a rejection of Palace's proclaimed innocence - instead, it provides the option for three parties (UEFA, Palace, and Nottingham Forest) to avoid a legal case in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as the potential final exclusion of Lyon from the Europa League would bring an end to the investigation against Palace.

Therefore, the decision to delay could save significant money and time in the long run. However, it's a decision that has only been made due to a poorly-designed system for dealing with multi-club ownership in UEFA competitions.

You'd hope UEFA will seek to address these flaws in the future.
