Exclusive: Will Hughes set to remain at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes is expected to extend his stay in South London. The 29-year-old has an option for a one-year extension in his contract, which The Palace Way understands has been triggered.

New boss Oliver Glasner is said to have been extremely pleased with the midfielder, who has started Crystal Palace's last five matches.

Hughes is one of eight players whose contracts run out at the end of the season, with the club gearing up for a summer rebuild.

The Englishman joined Crystal Palace from Watford in 2021 and has since made 80 appearances, scoring twice, most notably in the club's 4-0 decimation of Everton that saw the Eagles reach the FA Cup semi-final.

Hughes ensures that Palace hold vital midfield depth heading into the 2024/25 season, with Jefferson Lerma, Adam Wharton, and Cheick Doucoure in the Eagles’ ranks, with the addition of another central midfielder also likely.

Depth and reliablity personify Hughes who has made thirty appearances this season, slotting into midfield in light of numerous absences including Cheick Doucoure who sustained an achilles injury in November. In recent weeks, he has become a mainstay in the side, starting five consecutive games which included victories over Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle.
